Splash Your Way to Younger Skin!

Dermatologists agree that improper cleansing ages skin.  Here is what they recommend to ‘beat the clock’:

1.       Cleanse only once a day!

Yeah, that’s right!  Twice a day is too drying for over-40 complexions.

2.       Use a moisturizing cleanser – even a cleansing oil.

Save the ‘squeeky clean’ concept for little girls.  Rub cleansing oil into skin for a few minutes before bedtime to boost circulation and increase radiance.  Remove with a warm, moist washcloth for more stimulation and mild exfoliant.  Apply moisturizer or serum.

3.       Just rinse with cool water in the morning.

You’ll brighten skin and make pores look tighter.

Try this for a few weeks and let us know how it works!

Aloe Vera – Friendly Flora

Did you know that Aloe Vera is a flowering, perennial plant from the Lily family? I did not!

I do know that it is mainly known as a treatment for the skin, applied to cuts, burns, eczema, and the like.  The juice or gel from the Aloe Vera plant is used in numerous serums, cosmetics and burn creams. It is an essential ingredient in SkinAgain Healing Serums.

Another interesting use of Aloe Vera is in juice!  As a great “all purpose tonic” aloe vera can strengthen levels of energy and general well being. It can relieve signs of abdominal pain, peptic ulcer, upset stomachs and constipation just by drinking its juice. Taking two to four ounces daily of aloe vera juice can provide your immune system the necessary nutrients for cleansing the digestive system. Who knew?

Is aloe vera juice part of your daily routine? Do you make your own? Tell us about it!

What the Pros Use on Their Skin

Ever wanted to sneak a peek into your dermatologist’s bathroom cabinet to see what he/she uses?

Now you can!

Here are the top 10 common things dermatologists agree on for themselves:

1.      They go with their skin type.

2.      They stick to what works for them individually.

3.      They change products for each season.

4.      They use Retinoids.

5.      Rain, shine, sleet or snow – they apply sunscreen.

6.      Their products contain antioxidants.

7.      They take a ‘whole body’ approach (drinking lots of water, healthy food & exercise).

8.      They take their age into account.

9.       They use non-invasive devices like Ultrasonic.

10.  They get monthly facials.

There you have it!  Simple and not so far off from what all of us do. . . well. . . the water and exercise could probably be improved upon a little… ;-)

Antioxidants for Spring Body Maintenance – The Benefits Keep on Rolling!

In a previous blog, we talked about the health benefits of antioxidants, like Green Tea, for both outside of the body on the skin, and inside of the body for optimum metabolism.  Continuing on the subject of antioxidants, here’s something interesting for spring season and all of you who may suffer with allergies that manifest both inside and outside of the body.

There is an antioxidant called ‘quercetin’ that helps stop cells from releasing histamine (the chemical that sets off symptoms in response to allergic triggers).  Even though it can take four to six weeks to work (so ideally you should start taking it about six weeks before allergy season), it can still help if taken later.

Be proactive and ask your practitioner about this great antioxidant.  She/he may already have it in the office ready for you to take home and get started!

Green Tea – Inside Out

Filed under: Aging, Cooking, Health, Tips and Ideas — Tags: , , , , , , , , — admin @ 10:06 pm

One of the finest antioxidants we know of is Green Tea.  That’s why it’s a super element to put on your skin and a fundamental ingredient in SkinAgain Healing Serums.

But, did you know that the inside of your body can also really benefit from Green Tea, especially after the age of 30?

Here’s why:

After the age of 30, your metabolism typically drops 1-2% per decade–or about 70 daily calories every 10 years.

Drinking 3-10 daily cups of green tea, according to a growing number of studies, does appear to kick the metabolism into gear, as well as stimulate fat burning.

How about 2-5 pounds of extra calories dropped over the course of the year by doing nothing more than making sure you’re downing your Green Tea?  Sound like something you can do?

Try it and let us know what you think!

Aspartame in Food – Just Like Parabens in Skin Care

If you have a symptom that your doc can’t cure, AND you consume Aspartame (now in over 6,000 products), take this FREE 60-day self test:

1.       Gather all Aspartame products and seal it for 60 days.

2.       Create a log:

a.       Enter all your physical problems (pains, headaches, rashes, etc)

b.       Enter all your mental problems (mood swings, insomnia, etc)

c.       Enter all your current medications and doses.

3.       Read ALL LABELS.  If a product says “sugar free” or “no-calorie”, chances are it contains Aspartame (or Saccharin, Acesulfame-k, and who knows what else). DON’T CONSUME IT!

4.       In 3 – 4 weeks, do an inventory of your problems/symptoms as well as med doses.  Consider vision, perception, mood, etc.   If some or all of your problems are gone, you just had a free cure!

If you’re convinced Aspartame was a significant reason for one or more of your health problems, perform the following:

1.       Return all Aspartame-laced stuff for a refund.

2.       Report it to the FDA:

a.       Obtain a copy of ‘Victim Report Form.’

b.      Send it certified to: Betty Martini (address on form)

For information on FDA’s MEDLINE e-mail: medwatch@bangate.fda.gov

Subtle Energy – Own Your Intuition

As you know, SkinAgain Healing Serums are infused with the Subtle Energies of over 300 healing elements.  Subtle Energies, in this case, are helpful to our skin – and even our body.

Subtle Energies are all around us.  They are powerfully emitted from people (and combinations of people), and when we ‘sense something’, it’s a sign that our intuition is picking up a Subtle Energy that we need to pay attention to.

Intuition is our sixth sense, our place of inner knowing. It’s what is providing the knowledge when we know something, but we’re not sure how or why we know. In a way, it is the knowledge of the body, because many of us ‘feel’ our intuition, often in our hearts or guts. Everyone is born with the gift of intuition, but how do we strengthen it and learn to trust it? Most of us have so much other chatter going on in our heads that it can be difficult to distinguish what is truly intuitive and what is not.

How can you become more intuitive? By spending quiet time alone at home for daily meditation you’ll find yourself becoming more intuitive.  Daydreaming on your desires helps too.  When we are fixed on what is, we continue to create what is, but when we dare to dream, we resist the urge to dwell on why our desires can’t happen and instead determine what needs to be done to make it happen.

So if your intuition is sensing that something isn’t feeling right, meditate and dare to daydream. In other words, own your intuition, pay attention to Subtle Energy and things can open up for you.

Calm Your Feet – Calm Your Day

Every week, I take care of my elderly parents and one necessary inclusion in this routine is their weekly feet grooming.  Now, I’m not going to go into details about what this requires, but I will say that it is a true act of love!  Trust me, if I wasn’t already taking care of my feet with regular pedicures, this ritual has engrained into me how we should never take our feet for granted and always make sure they get regular TLC!

Without consciously being aware of it, we give our feet a beating every day.  From hitting the pavement, flexing, bending, carrying the weight of our lives and then, of course, our oh-so-cute shoes . . .

In ancient times, gratitude for these funky body parts were a daily ritual, and they knew what they were doing.  They somehow knew that treating these kind ‘supporters’ of our souls did more than just prevent soil from entering the home.  They knew that the footbath unwound the stress, cleared scattered energy, grounded them and prevented some very unwanted side-effects later on in life.

Simple immersion into warm water can be an effective way to calm not just the feet and body, but the mind as well.

For maximum benefit, you can tailor your soak to the season.  In winter, just the warmth can do the trick.  For Spring, add Epsom salts to boost detoxification.  In Summer, add peppermint oil to boost circulation and energize your spirit.  In the Autumn, add a teaspoon of almond oil and light some candles.

To conclude any sole-soaking ritual, always use an all-natural moisturizer like SkinAgain’s pHo-tone Energizing Healing Serum, to hydrate the skin.

Energy Infused Skin Care

SkinAgain is all about energy infused skin care.

But, what if, it’s not your skin that’s lacking energy, it’s YOU!  You feel exhausted!   But instead of letting your entire day go, or turning to caffeine to fuel your energy lapse, try these two simple techniques to gain a bit more energy.  We promise, they only take a minute or two.

1.        Eagle Pose:  A simple yoga posture designed to help bring your energy back in to your core.

DO THISBend your right knee, lift your left leg off the floor, and wrap it around your right leg. Your left foot may wrap completely around your right shin, or it may rest to the outside of your right leg. Squeeze your thighs together, drawing energy back to your core. Now bring your arms out in front of you, with your elbows bent and hands pointing toward the ceiling. Cross your right arm over your left and wrap your arms until your palms meet. Gently move your arms up until elbows are at shoulder height, and then soften your shoulders down your back. This pose draws all of that energy we put out into the world back into our being. Stay here for up to 10 breaths, and then unwind and switch sides.

2.       Balance Your Cortices:  This easy technique balances the left and right hemispheres of the brain, and general brain function.  We believe everyone should be able to balance the cortices; the results can be immediate and profound in restoring healthy balance and boosting energy.
Click here to watch a quick video on this powerful, yet simple technique that could change your day!

If you know of something that naturally and quickly restores balance and energy, let us know!

Women’s Love/Hate Relationship with the Media – Part 2, Women in the Boardroom

Do women in the boardroom face a double standard?  Do we have to be extra attentive to self-improvement to appear to be competent and recognized as effective?

Here are some comments that we’ve heard over the years regarding ‘self-improvement’ that are necessary for women to stay in the boardroom:

Women in the boardroom

  • Women need to learn a more positive approach to leading, encouraging others, thus being less bossy than men.
  • When it comes to women in the boardroom, clothes speak volumes. It takes only a few seconds for people you’ve never met to form perceptions about your female authority and  abilities by judging your attire.
  • Women need to learn skills that will bring positive and powerful emotion to the workplace, and be better relationship-builders and better communicators than men (and apparently we can do this because our brains are more networked for language).
  • Women need to learn alternative approaches to leading teams — encouraging more open discussion, cultivating talent and sharing credit.  In fact, it would behoove women to read books on inspirational motivation, intellectual stimulation and individualized consideration. Perhaps sitting at the middle of the conference table rather than at its head and saying, “We are all in this together and I am part of it”.

With all of this emphasis on self-improvement to become successful in the boardroom (and all of it is good, no doubt), are we spending so much time trying to ‘measure up’, that we actually never make it there in time to make a real change?

Wow! Learning how to have authority in a mostly male dominated position, is a subtle and far reaching issue, indeed.

And, we haven’t even touched on how a woman’s skin and hair is supposed to look in the boardroom (trust me, being in the skin care industry, we’ve seen and heard an earful)!

Are you in the boardroom?  Would you like to be?  Please share us your thoughts on what you think is necessary for a woman to stay there!
