Burdock Root – Why in Skin Care?

Burdock is a root that is found in Europe in Asia. Traditionally, burdock has been used as a remedy to:

1.       Purify the blood by removing toxins

2.       Be used topically as a remedy for skin disorders like eczema and psoriasis

3.       Soothe pain of ulcers and arthritis

Burdock is popular in Japan as a source of vitamins and nutrients as some of its active ingredients are arcigen, calcium, chlorogenic acid, essential oil, flavonoids, iron, inulin, lactone, mucilage, polyacetylenes, potassium, resin, tannin, and taraxosterol.

If you ever try SkinAgain’s Healing Serums for a personal skin issue, you will notice that it works to soothe pain immediately.  Why?  Because one of its super- active and all-natural ingredients is . . . yes. . . you guessed it – Burdock Root!

Aloe Vera – Friendly Flora

Did you know that Aloe Vera is a flowering, perennial plant from the Lily family? I did not!

I do know that it is mainly known as a treatment for the skin, applied to cuts, burns, eczema, and the like.  The juice or gel from the Aloe Vera plant is used in numerous serums, cosmetics and burn creams. It is an essential ingredient in SkinAgain Healing Serums.

Another interesting use of Aloe Vera is in juice!  As a great “all purpose tonic” aloe vera can strengthen levels of energy and general well being. It can relieve signs of abdominal pain, peptic ulcer, upset stomachs and constipation just by drinking its juice. Taking two to four ounces daily of aloe vera juice can provide your immune system the necessary nutrients for cleansing the digestive system. Who knew?

Is aloe vera juice part of your daily routine? Do you make your own? Tell us about it!

‘Klever Konservation ‘

There are some numbers we’d like to put together and we need your help to do it. We’re looking for every specific instance of wasteful, unnecessary use of paper you can think of – even scrap and used gift wrap.

Here at SkinAgain, we try to pay attention to how we can diminish waste; going paperless when we can and when we can’t, using both sides of paper.  We use post consumer recycled (PCR) paper that is manufactured in a wind powered facility.  Of course, we always recycle.  We pour water into a cup instead of buying water in bottles – wait – that’s plastic, not paper . . .

If there are some clever ways that you have come up with to help conserve paper in your home or office, please comment.

Lastly, if you’ve ever used a SkinAgain Healing Serum, these airless pump containers are completely refillable, so don’t throw them away, especially because of the valuable energy conductor that is affixed to the ‘floor’ of the container (learn more). Simply refill with any lotion or serum.  Soon we will be launching our large, money-saving, bulk size Healing Serums that you can use to refill your airless pump!

Should women under 50 get a yearly mammogram?

Wow!  If you’ve been keeping up with this controversy, you know it has created quite a stir among health professionals, activists, cancer survivors and women in general.

Pros and Cons:

Pro:  The fact is regular mammography has saved thousands of lives by detecting tumors that women and their physicians did not find.     One published study done in Sweden found deaths from breast cancer reduced 44% when a mammogram program was put in place.  This year alone, 203,500 American women will be diagnosed with breast cancer and 39,600 dying of the disease.  We can imagine what these number would be without mammograms!

Con: USPSTF says “Women under 50 are more likely to get a false positive mammogram because of the denseness of their breast tissue.”  Some 40,000 a year are put through needless agonizing emotional turmoil, biopsies and other medical procedures due to false positive test results.

Consider:

1.       Mammography does little to distinguish between cancerous and non-cancerous cells.

2.       By the time some cancerous tumors show up on a mammogram or can be felt by self breast exam, they may have been growing there for 8-10 years!

Options Under Consideration:

1.       Ultrasound

2.       MRI

3.       Computer –aided detection/diagnosis

4.       Thermography

5.       Blood tests
