Heal Burns With SkinAgain
Burns are classified in three levels of severity. First degree burns are red, stinging and may swell a bit. The skin over the burn turns white when you press on it and will start to peel in a day or so. Second degree burns are deeper and can be quite painful. The skin blisters and swells significantly. Third degree may burns cause little or no pain because the nerves under the skin are damaged. The burnt skin is white and charred.
Third degree burns are very serious and should be treated at the hospital. First and second degree burn treatments can be done at home. First degree burns should be soaked in cool water and then treated with a skin care product such as Skin Again's pRo-tone. Protect the burned area by covering it with a dry gauze bandage, and manage pain with an over-the-counter pain reliever such as Advil or Tylenol. The burn should heal within a few days.
For second degree burn treatment, follow an initial 15-minute cool water soaking with a daily regimen of clean, cool cloths (a damp or wet cloth is best) and gentle applications of a healing cream such as Skin Again's pRo-tone. (If you have been prescibed an antibiotic cream, use that for the life of the prescription, then consult your doctor about your continued skin care regimen.) Cover the burn with a dry, nonstick dressing lightly held in place with medical tape. Notify your doctor if you see signs of infection, such as redness, swelling, discharge (pus) or increased pain.
All burns itch as they heal, so to prevent infection, avoid scratching the burned area and do not break any blisters that form. Also, burned skin may be sensitive to sunlight for up to a year, so be sure to heal your skin with Skin Again's pRo-tone. Find pRo-tone in our online store.
